Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CIAA Sports Network?
The CIAA Sports Network (CIAASN) is the official digital streaming network of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest historically black colleges and universities conference. The CIAASN is a league-wide initiative that showcases both the academic and athletic success of the conference and its 13-member institutions.
What will be on the CIAA Sports Network?
The CIAA Sports Network will encompass all original digital programming on theciaasn.com. In the 2018-19 academic year, the CIAASN will strive to offer some league football games, most league volleyball matches, all men’s and women’s basketball league games, and coverage of 14 CIAA Championships. In addition, the CIAASN will stream nationally syndicated Aspire TV games as agreed upon, either live or on demand, as well as select sports when made available by CIAA member institutions.
Will athletic events be the only content aired on the CIAA Sports Network?
No. It is the CIAASN’s mission to showcase the complete student-athlete experience, ranging from competition and championships to the classroom and the community. The CIAASN will be able to stream annual events such as the CIAA Media Day, press conferences and other annual awards program, while member institutions will be encouraged to provide additional content originated from its respective campuses.
What does it cost to watch?
Live and on-demand archived video is available free of charge, except for the CIAA Football Championship and the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament.
How can I watch the CIAA Sports Network?
CIAASN is available on both your desktop and mobile/tablet devices, as well as for over-the-top (OTT) platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Apple TV 4th Gen. The official website of the CIAASN is theciaasn.com, while the CIAASN app is available for iOS in the App Store and Android on Google Play. Mobile devices including iPhone, iPad, and Android will work with the default web browser. Devices should be kept up to date and connected to a reliable data connection for optimal playback. Apple users and owners of an AppleTV device can simply ‘throw’ the webcast from their iPhone or iPad using the AirPlay feature. Computer users can output their display directly to an HDMI signal if supported, otherwise a converter may be required. These options may require advance setup and we suggest using an ‘On Demand’ archive to test prior to watching a live event.
I am a CIAA basketball fan. Where can I go to view each conference game on a given night?
Your school’s game will be available on its respective school showcase page, but every league game taking place that night will be available on the official CIAASN showcase at theciaasn.com.
Why do some games feature audio and others do not?
Currently, the CIAASN only requires schools to offer video for some football and volleyball games as well as all conference basketball games during the 2018-19 season. The CIAA encourages schools to offer audio this season, but it is not mandated. In the future, the CIAASN will strive to offer both audio and video services for all future streamed events.
Why do advertisements appear during the streamed event?
To keep the CIAASN free to viewers, ads will be aired before and during the streamed event. Any advertisements that occur during a game will not interrupt the action.
